A Season Defined by Persistence
The 2015 campaign for the Speedmaster #11 Street Stock started under difficult circumstances. The team lost Dave Scheidecker - a teammate and close friend - to a heart attack during the preseason. That loss weighed on every aspect of the early races.
The first two outings at Orange Show Speedway reflected the struggle: mechanical failures and on-track incidents resulted in 13th and 16th place finishes. Since then, the trajectory has shifted. The last three races produced finishes of 6th, 7th, and 10th as the team found its rhythm and began making measurable gains on the car.
Saturday Night at Orange Show Speedway
Conditions for the most recent round were demanding. High temperatures and a slick track surface made setup difficult to dial in. The team adjusted throughout practice, and Jay Verduzco qualified the #11 Speedmaster Street Stock in 10th out of a 22-car field.
When the 1-800 Loan Mart Street Stocks took the green flag under the lights at approximately 8pm, the race unravelled immediately. On the opening lap, the #35 car lost traction running the bottom line and turned Verduzco around, spinning the Speedmaster Camaro. Verduzco avoided further contact from the passing field and sustained minimal damage.
The caution flag brought the field back together, but the #11 restarted from 22nd - dead last. Over the remaining laps, Verduzco worked his way forward through traffic, survived two additional restarts, and avoided another incident to bring the car home in 10th place. It was the largest position gain of the race: 12 spots in 30 laps.
Building Forward
Each outing has produced data that feeds directly into setup improvements for the next race. The balance and handling of the #11 continue to progress, supported by Speedmaster-engineered parts and the technical resources behind the program.
The next race is scheduled for August 15, 2015 at Orange Show Speedway.
