The 383 Blown Small Block Chevy
The small block Chevy 383 stroker has earned its place as one of the most reliable displacement upgrades in the performance engine world. Built on the proven 350 block with a longer-stroke crankshaft, the 383 delivers the additional torque that comes with 33 more cubic inches of displacement. Adding a supercharger to that foundation creates an engine with a power curve that starts strong and builds with RPM.
Build Details
Sydney Speed Supplies assembled this 383 blown motor using Speedmaster components for the rotating assembly, supercharger system, and supporting hardware. The engine features a roots-style blower that provides positive displacement boost - consistent airflow delivery from idle through redline. That characteristic makes the combination streetable despite the significant output potential.
The internal components are built to handle the additional cylinder pressures that come with forced induction. Forged pistons, heavy-duty connecting rods, and a forged crankshaft provide the structural foundation. The cylinder heads are selected for flow characteristics that complement the blower's output, ensuring that the boost pressure translates to usable power rather than just higher manifold readings.
A Combination That Delivers
What makes the blown 383 small block Chevy effective is the balance between displacement, boost, and component selection. The 383 cubic inches provide enough base volume to make meaningful power without extreme boost levels. The supercharger adds output without requiring the high-RPM operation that a naturally aspirated engine would need to match the same numbers. And the Speedmaster component package ensures that every part in the assembly is rated for the loads it will experience.
This video from Sydney Speed Supplies presents the finished engine - a complete, assembled combination ready for installation. It demonstrates the range of the Speedmaster product line and the capability of the components when assembled into a purpose-built forced induction package.
