The Partnership
Speedmaster partnered with The Custom Shop to engineer and build two vehicles for SEMA 2016: a 1958 Plymouth Belvidere and a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Both builds represent a full integration of Speedmaster-designed components, from cylinder heads and intake manifolds to coil-over assemblies and wiring systems.
On Display at SEMA and Beyond
Both vehicles were on display at SEMA 2016 in Las Vegas from November 1st through 4th. The 1977 Trans Am was located at Valspar's booth (#10851), and the 1958 Belvidere served as a SEMA feature vehicle.
Beyond SEMA, the builds are scheduled for a national tour including the Muscle Car Nationals, the World of Wheels show in Chicago, the Hot Rod Power Tour, Slamology in Indianapolis, the Street Machine Nationals, and the Hot Rod Super Nationals.
Speedmaster Components in the Builds
Both project cars integrate a comprehensive set of Speedmaster-engineered components spanning the full drivetrain, from top-end to chassis. The LS-platform builds include CNC-machined cylinder heads, shaft-mount rocker arms, hydraulic roller camshafts, down-draft EFI stack intake manifolds, fabricated valve covers, billet fuel injector rails, and a complete gasket set with MLS head gaskets.
Supporting systems include adjustable coil-over shock assemblies (250 lbs/in, 12-inch), a universal 22-circuit wiring harness, high-output ignition coils, stainless steel exhaust headers, a high-torque starter motor, and a 32-inch floor-shift tilt steering column. Each component was selected to work as part of an integrated system rather than an isolated upgrade.
