The Top Doorslammer final at the 2011 Nitro Champs comes down to two of Australia's best.

The 2011 Nitro Champs produced the kind of final round that defines a season. John Zappia, running the Speedmaster and Procomp Electronics-backed program, lined up against Peter Kapiris in the Top Doorslammer final. Two of Australia's most competitive door car racers, side by side, with the event title on the line.

The Matchup

Zappia and Kapiris had been running at the front of the Top Doorslammer field throughout the event. Both teams brought proven combinations and both had worked through the elimination rounds to reach the final. In a class where thousandths of a second separate competitors and mechanical failures end runs without warning, reaching the final is its own measure of preparation.

Top Doorslammer Competition

Australia's Top Doorslammer class runs full-bodied cars at speeds and elapsed times that put enormous demands on every system in the vehicle. Engine management, clutch calibration, and chassis setup all have to work in concert across a quarter-mile pass that lasts just a few seconds. The margins are thin, and the consequences of a misstep are immediate.

What It Represents

For Speedmaster, having a presence in the Nitro Champs final validates the durability and performance of the components running in Zappia's car. Race finals are not controlled environments. They are the harshest test available, and the data from events like this feeds directly into ongoing product development.
